The headline antioxidant and brightener, in a stable oil-soluble form, backed by tocopherol.
The multi-antioxidant stack is what the brand sells as comprehensive defense.
No close retail equivalent: we credit at most 50% of these points.
Calms redness and evens tone.
Plant antioxidants that add a different kind of free-radical defense.
The barrier lipids keep the antioxidant serum comfortable.

Adds: Tea, grape seed, cocoa and turmeric polyphenols
How to use. Patch test any new active on the inner forearm or behind the ear for 24-48 hours first. AM: cleanse, CeraVe vitamin C serum, niacinamide serum, moisturizer, SPF 30+. Good for sensitive skin because 10% vitamin C with ceramides is milder than 20%. Add Timeless Skin Care Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum: This is the classic vitamin C + E + ferulic antioxidant trio, which has human photoprotection data behind it. It covers the vitamin C and E side of Alto but not the broad multi-antioxidant and ceramide side. L-ascorbic acid at 20% is much more potent (and more irritating) than the vitamin C ester in Alto. Add Paula's Choice RESIST Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum: A plant-antioxidant serum (green tea and similar); product page and price not checked.
Partial credit means the part only partly matches that standout.
The total leaves out the 1 part showing "Check price".
65 / 100. We have not found a shelf product that closes more of the gap yet.
88 is our ceiling. Ergothioneine, PQQ and SOD are not found at useful levels in budget retail serums; other antioxidants give partial credit only.
One bottle instead of a build. Sorted by match score; scores use the same standouts as above.
CeraVe

Why it is close. CeraVe matches Alto's barrier-lipid set (the same three ceramides plus cholesterol and phytosphingosine) and adds a real dose of vitamin C. It is gentler than the 20% Timeless serum. It lacks the exotic antioxidants and niacinamide.
Timeless Skin Care
Why it is close. This is the classic vitamin C + E + ferulic antioxidant trio, which has human photoprotection data behind it. It covers the vitamin C and E side of Alto but not the broad multi-antioxidant and ceramide side. L-ascorbic acid at 20% is much more potent (and more irritating) than the vitamin C ester in Alto.
Paula's Choice
Why it is close. A booster you add to your moisturizer that delivers the vitamin C + E + ferulic core, with a peptide and soothing bisabolol. It is the priciest of the dupes and, like the others, misses Alto's wide antioxidant cocktail.
The Ordinary
Why it is close. Shares only niacinamide, which handles Alto's redness and tone-evening job. Useful as the second half of a combo with a vitamin C serum rather than as a stand-alone substitute.
A topical vitamin C + E + ferulic acid antioxidant solution gave substantial photoprotection of human skin (reduced erythema, thymine dimers, p53) and complements sunscreen.
